Elizabeth Williams, Bill Robles and Aggie Kenny are the award-winning courtroom artists whose works have appeared on NBC, CBS, ABC, local affiliates in New York and Los Angeles, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Newsday, and Bloomberg News. Although the three accomplished courtroom illustrators featured in this exhibit have made careers drawing criminals such as Bernard Madoff, Charles Manson and John Gotti, their work here depicts the behind-the-scenes heroes who bring these offenders to justice.
“During our years in court we have seen many times the results of the hard work of law enforcement, including the NYPD,” said Williams. “The work they do largely goes unnoticed. But when a heinous murderer is sentenced or a repeat offender is brought to justice, we witness the fruits of their labors first hand.”
Featured in the exhibit are images depicting NYPD rescue boats aiding passengers and police divers securing USAir flight 1549 in the Hudson; armed officers guarding the New York Stock Exchange, Pennsylvania Station and the U.N. General Assembly; and patrolmen on routine assignment in the subway and on horseback.
Just as these artists must capture the true character of the criminals they draw in court, so have they caught the essence of our men and women in blue. We are grateful to Elizabeth, Aggie and Bill for recognizing and illustrating the great work done by the NYPD.
In the Artists’ Own Words
For The New York City Police Museum we have created a body of work that highlights the work of the NYPD. During our years in court we have seen many times the thankful results of the hard fought work of law enforcement including NYPD. Also sadly, we have seen the tragedy when one of these officers has fallen in the line of duty, as in the case of Russell Timoshenko. We have the highest respect for the work these officers do. Their important work often goes unnoticed. But in court when a heinous murderer is arrested or a predicate criminal is brought to justice we see this firsthand and are thankful they are out there day in and day out protecting and serving the public.
It is for them this artwork was created.
